Terrace Restaurant at The Charlotte Inn | A French Toast to MV

The old saying ‘money yells, but wealth whispers’ could be used to describe the graceful and elegant Charlotte Inn, a Relais & Chateaux property that is located on the quiet tree lined South Summer Street in Edgartown village. Its lovely but unassuming architecture blends in with its other well appointed neighboring homes. But that’s where the similarity ends. Once inside the lobby, you are instantly transformed into a bygone world and era; the walls and halls are adorned with fine art, elegant antiques, luxurious props, and fresh flowers. There is beauty in every corner and at every turn.
Originally from Troyes, in the heart of the Champagne region of France, Chef Martineau brings international and national award-winning experience to the restaurant. His menu celebrates classic French cuisines, highlighting the best of locally sourced ingredients. It has a mouth watering mix of New England delicacies, flavorful sauces and decadent and innovative desserts (the MV Floating Island, featuring soft baked meringue, crème anglaise, caramel sauce is an absolute dream). He has also infused some of his umami and Japanese experiences to some of the meticulously prepared dishes. A signature dish, the Lobster Patrice’s Style, with chestnuts, bacon, shiitake, black truffles, light cognac-lobster bisque will make any non lobster lover a convert.

With a finely curated wine list, outstanding service (our waiter for the evening, Andre, was the perfect mix of professional and entertaining) and attention to detail, the entire culinary experience felt very sophisticated, but never stuffy.

When it’s time to venture back out on the streets, it may take you a moment to remember where you are. Did you just leave Paris? Or are you back on an island in the middle of the Atlantic? With a memorable evening like this, does it matter?
